Let Your Child Pick the Topic

Children often learn faster when the book matches what they already love, whether that is animals, food, colours, or vehicles.

Sometimes the best way to help a child connect with Kurdish is to follow their interests.

If they love animals, start there. If they point at every car, bus, and truck they see, go with vehicles. If they are always asking for snacks, a food book might be the easiest win in the world.

Children are much more open to hearing new words when the topic already matters to them. It feels less like learning and more like play.

I think this is something parents can underestimate. We sometimes choose what seems useful to us, but children usually show us what they are ready for. If a topic already has their attention, the words have a much better chance of sticking.

That is one reason I made books around clear themes. A child does not need to love “language learning”. They just need to love something enough to keep turning the page.

It also makes reading time easier for the parent. You do not have to work so hard to keep the moment going when your child is already interested. They are more likely to point, ask questions, or laugh at something on the page.

If you are not sure where to begin, watch what your child talks about during the day. That usually gives you the answer.

  • always naming animals at the park
  • obsessed with trucks and buses
  • talking about food all the time
  • noticing colours everywhere

When in doubt, let interest lead. It usually makes the whole experience easier for both the child and the parent, and it gives Kurdish a better chance of feeling fun right from the start.
